PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate to be used for a thin display having thickness reduction/weight reduction/impact resistivity/flexibility/low thermal expanding property/insulating property/heat resistivity/smoothness, and also to provide a method for manufacturing the substrate for display. SOLUTION: This substrate for display is configured by forming a resin layer whose surface roughness Ra is 0.2μm or less, and Rz is 2μm or less, and whose glass transfer temperature is 150°C or more on the surface of a metallic thin plate whose thermal expansion coefficient ranging from 20°C to 300°C is 11×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C or less.
