PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain water flowing in a river by a water intake pump without being affected by earth and sand of a river bottom or the like. SOLUTION: The water intake facility 10 comprises a pit 14 for water intake of the earth and sand discharge type recessed in an inverse square spindle shape in the river bottom 13, a discharge pump 15, a stand 16 for a water intake pump, a pair of water intake pumps 17, a water intake screen 18, a float type fence 19, and a water level sensor 20. The water intake pumps 17 are disposed over the pit 14 for water intake. The pit 14 for water intake is formed to have an inverse triangular cross section along the longitudinal direction of the river 11, a slope L1 on the upstream U side is formed sharply with respect to the river bottom 13, and a slope L2 on the downstream D side is formed moderately tiltingly with respect to the river bottom 13.
