PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently prolong the service life of a tuyere in an AOD (argon oxygen decarburization) furnace while holding gas cost to a low level. SOLUTION: In the initial stage of the service life in the furnace, the gas flowing speed of the outer pipe in both side tuyeres 4a is made to be≥280 Nm/s and also, the gas flowing speed of the outer pipe in the inside tuyere 4b interposed with both side tuyeres, is made to be≤150 Nm/s, and thus, damage given to both side tuyeres 4a with the flowing in the peripheral direction of molten steel, is restrained. In the end stage of the service life in the furnace, the gas flowing speed of the outer pipe in both side tuyeres 4a is made to be≤150 Nm/s, and the gas flowing speed of the outer pipe in the inside tuyere 4b is made to be≥280 Nm/s, and thus, the erosion caused by vertex is prevented.
