PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmentally friendly reactive polyester under mild conditions using no organic solvent at all including a production process by improving a conventional method for producing a polymer comprising advancing a reaction while distilling off water produced during heating in a nonhydrating organic solvent, e.g. toluene because the reaction is a condensation reaction though polyesters which are usual polymers are obtained by condensing a carboxylic acid with a hydroxy group and esterification in water cannot readily be caused because the esterification reaction is an equilibrium reaction and to provide a method for producing the reactive polyester. SOLUTION: The reactive polyester is obtained by carrying out a copolymerization reaction of an alcohol compound, a carboxylic acid compound or a compound having an unsaturated bond and the hydroxy group or carboxy group in combination by using a specific enzyme catalyst or a specified acid in a complete aqueous system.
