The roller sorter (7) is located near the floor. Between the roller-sorter and the raised upper end of the chute (11) a vertical conveyor (14) is interposed, to lift the preforms (V). The vertical conveyor moves the preforms at right angles to their axes. It moves them in the formation imposed upon them at the roller-sorter. It has two endless conveying sections (15, 16) with resilient finger-like carriers gripping the preforms between themselves. These sections are spaced apart and driven synchronously. The vertical conveyor has an interception region aligned with the roller-sorter, an end region aligned with the chute and an intermediate vertical section. A preform inspection instrument (2) and a preform rinser (A) are located near the floor, following the roller-sorter. The vertical conveyor is driven in synchronism with the blowing machine (1).
