<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print system where a print controller having a raster image processor is connected through a private cable to a print engine wherein, even when the print engine connected to the print controller is exchanged, it is possible to realize a print output suitable to the exchanged print engine. <P>SOLUTION: When the detection of an engine connection detecting part 36 changes from a non-connecting state to a connecting state, an engine specification setting part 38 acquires engine specifications from the engine specification storing part of the print engine in the connected state, and stores them in an engine specification storing part 40.
