<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new optically active fluorine-containing compound useful as an intermediate compound of medicines and agrochemicals and an efficient method for producing optically active 3, 3, 3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropionic acid. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing optically active 3, 3, 3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropionic acid is produced by performing an asymmetric epoxidization of an α, α, α-trifluoromethacrylic acid derivative to obtain a new optically active fluorine-containing compound, converting it to a carboxylic acid and then performing a reducing reaction by using a metal hydride. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
