PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain take-up device allowed to easily return to a state capable of exerting back stop function without being replaced with a new one even if removed to the outside of an engine. SOLUTION: This chain take-up device 100 comprises a projection energizing spring 3 for energizing a cylindrical plunger 120 projected toward the chain, a cam receiving ring spring 150 for energizing a cam receiving ring 140 in a cylindrical hole 11 for sliding the plunger, a cam guide ring 170 for guiding and restricting an wedge-like cam chip 160 meshing with the rack 121 of the cylindrical plunger 120, and a sealing plate 180 for sealing the inside of the plunger sliding cylindrical hole 111. The device also comprises a plunger engaging/disengaging mechanism for switching between an engagement and a disengagement between the cylindrical plunger 120 and the wedge-like cam chip 160 by stopping the rotation of only the cam receiving ring 140 operated in association with the cylindrical plunger 120 by a locking jig T inserted from a seal plate 180 side when removed to the outside of the engine E.
