摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal composition which keeps a bookshelf structure and has a wider range of liquid crystal temperature, and in which further the temperature dependence of a layer structure (change of the layer structure after exposure to a low-temperature history) can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises a naphthalene compound represented by formula (1) and a dimeric liquid crystal compound represented by formula (2), and the liquid crystal element uses the composition. (In the formulae, R<SB>11</SB>and R<SB>12</SB>are each an optionally halogen-substituted alkyl group, an optionally halogen-substituted alkoxyl group, or an optionally halogen-substituted alkenyl group; Y<SB>11</SB>is a single bond, or O; Y<SB>12</SB>is COO, CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>, or the like; X<SB>11</SB>and X<SB>12</SB>are each H, or a halogen atom; (m) and (m') are each 1-20; Y<SB>1</SB>and Y<SB>2</SB>are each O, or COO; and Ar is 1,4-phenylene, 2,6-naphthylene, or 4,4'-biphenylene.).
