An appliqué is described, as well as a method for mounting it, and a template for accurately placing it in any number of trial locations and a final location. An appliqué is described having a base shell, an outer shell, and one or more intermediate shells. Bases on the outer shell may be connected using shell fasteners to corresponding landings on the base shell. Footings on the base shell may be fastened to a wall using wall fasteners. A template is described for use in placing an appliqué in any number of trial locations on a surface. A method of using a template is disclosed for placing an appliqué in trial locations and in a final location. The template may be part of a consumer package enclosing an appliqué.
