PURPOSE: A distributive router and an ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) packet processing method of the distributive router are provided to update a forwarding table and an ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) table with information included in an ARP packet, and to transmit the ARP packet to a host processor only when the ARP packet is an ARP response packet, in order to update routing information of the host processor, thereby minimizing an overhead. CONSTITUTION: A network processor(120) consists of a forwarding table(125) and an ARP table(126), is connected to an optional Ethernet interface, and forwards a received ARP packet to a destination address. A host processor(110) communicates with the network processor(120), and performs a routing function. The network processor(120) retrieves the forwarding table(125) and the ARP table(126) when the ARP packet is received, updates the forwarding table(125) and the ARP table(126) with information included in the ARP packet, and transmits the ARP packet to the host processor(110) only when the ARP packet is an ARP response packet, in order to update routing information of the host processor(110).
