摘要 PURPOSE: A brightness controllable LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device is provided to divide a picture of the LCD device into plural areas, and to control the brightness of a fluorescent lamp of a backlight unit according to the areas, thereby implementing high definition using brightness differences by each area and reducing power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A data converter(400) receives image data of each pixel corresponding to (n+1)th frame, to output brightness data of each pixel. A brightness calculator(420) divides the (n+1)th frame into plural areas, and receives the brightness data of each pixel to calculate and output average brightness of each area. A memory(440) stores average brightness of each area of nth frame divided into areas having the same number as the number of the (n+1)th frame. A brightness comparator(430) compares the average brightness of each area of the (n+1)th frame received from the brightness calculator(420) with the average brightness of each area of the (n)th frame received from the memory(440), to output brightness differences in each area. An inverter controller(400) receives the brightness differences to output control signals. A plurality of inverters(220-226) receive the control signals to output current increased or decreased in proportional to the brightness differences. A plurality of fluorescent lamp(200-206) receive the current from the inverters(220-226) to irradiate light to a liquid crystal panel.
