PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for testing an array substrate of an LCD(liquid crystal display) are provided to reliably detect whether a data line is open or not. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for testing an array substrate(21) of an LCD includes multiplexers(60) for providing test signals to gate shorting bars(18,18') and data shorting bars(16,16') included in the array substrate, probe pins connected to the multiplexers, gate shorting bars and data shorting bars, and a space in which a glass substrate on which two or four array substrates are formed is placed. A predetermined probe pin among spare probe pins that are not connected to the shorting bars is connected to a common electrode line of the array substrate. A dip switch(90) is disposed at the portion where the predetermined probe pin is connected to the common electrode line.
