The invention concerns a device and a method for biological treatment of waste water in particular for purification of waste water, mainly soiled with light materials, in particular oils and fats. Known methods for biological treatment of waste water have, among others, the drawback of the large dimension of their installations, which often makes it impossible to integrate them in existing buildings. The invention aims at providing a device and a method for biological treatment of waste water whereof the simple and efficient design has the smallest possible space requirement compared to the usual immersed bacteria beds or fixed beds. Therefor, the inventive device is designed in the form of a column bacteria bed and is characterized in that it provides a substantially vertical treatment process with little space requirement.
