PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling delay time of a mobile communication system are provided to smoothly perform soft handover by reducing a difference between a signal received from a base station and a delayed signal received through a repeater. CONSTITUTION: A signal which has passed a repeater is received(510) and a signal is received directly from a base station(512). A delay difference between the signal received through the repeater and the signal received from the base station is recognized(514) and the delay difference and a difference of a combination depth are calculated(516). If the delay different is smaller than the combination depth, a signal is immediately despreaded and processed(520). If the delay different is greater than the combination depth, a variable delay unit delays the signal directly received by the base station to reduce the delay difference to below the combination depth(518). |
