[Also in Group X] A fastener for attaching a channel-shaped moulding having inturned edges to a support, comprises a U- shaped member having opposed arms for straddling an edge of the support, one of the arms being outwardly bowed away from the other arm and having both portions engageable with the inturned edges of the moulding, the outwardly bowed arm having a portion cut and bent to form a stud comprising a pair of legs extending in spaced relation to each other toward the other arm for engagement in an aperture in the support, one of the legs being joined to the arm and the other leg terminating in a free end bearing against the arm from which it is formed. In the arrangement shown, as applied to attaching a channeled moulding 12 to a car door 14, the latter comprises an outer shell portion 16 having an opening 21 herein and a stiffening rail 24, the moulding being retained on the portion 16 by clips 10 each of which is formed of a U-shaped member one of the opposed arms 42 of which is provided with a stud member 52 engaging the opening 21 and resilient fingers 64 bearing against the portion 16, the other arm 40 of the clip bearing against the rail 24. The clips are assembled into the moulding by rotating the clips to allow the arm 42 to pass between inturned edges of the moulding, further rotation thereafter allowing the clips to enter recesses 36 and 38, and the edges of the moulding to spring apart to permit the clips to snap into the vertical position. The assembled clips and moulding is then applied to the support by hooking the arm 40 over the upper edge thereof and sliding the moulding downwardly until the stud 52 enters the opening 21. |
