PURPOSE: An LCD(liquid crystal display) and a method for manufacturing the LCD are provided to maintain a predetermined capacitance of a storage capacitor. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes a gate electrode and a gate line(62) formed on a transparent substrate, and a gate insulating layer(63), an intrinsic semiconductor layer, an impurity-doped semiconductor layer and a metal layer, which are sequentially formed on the substrate including the gate electrode and gate line. The LCD further includes source and drain electrodes, a passivation layer(68) formed on the overall surface of the substrate, and a pixel electrode(69) formed on the passiviation layer. A portion of the passivation layer, which corresponds to the gate line, is selectively etched such that the thickness of the portion is thinner than the other portions of the passivation layer.
