PURPOSE: A recording medium reproduction apparatus capable of performing a random reproduction process and a method therefor are provided to redrive a random number generator to generate new random number data if random number data is the same as recorded random number data, and to reproduce music data according to the new random number data, thereby preventing recorded songs from being reproduced in the same reproduction order. CONSTITUTION: An input portion(20) inputs a random reproduction command from a user. A pickup device(10) reads data from a recording medium(5). An HDD(Hard Disk Drive)(30) records random number data generated to randomly reproduce music data recorded on the recording medium(5). A random number generator(52) generates a random number that determines a reproduction order of the music data. A controller(50) drives the random number generator(52) if the random reproduction command is inputted, redrives the generator(52) if the generated random number data is the same as the recorded random number data, and reproduces the music data according to the random number data.
