PURPOSE: A projection television and a method for releasing a screen protection function thereof are provided for a user to easily release the screen protection function by using a laser pointer. CONSTITUTION: A projection television includes a plurality of automatic color sensor parts(118a-118h) for sensing laser signals transmitted from an external laser pointer by a user and outputs the sensing result to a laser detecting part(119). The color sensor parts are mounted to predetermined areas of a screen(117) or a predetermined area of a PRT lens part forming a deflection part(116). The laser detecting part outputs a detection signal to a microcomputer(109), so that the microcomputer releases the automatic screen protection function.
