In a sheet feeding apparatus, e.g. for delivering banknotes from cassettes 2, 18 to an outlet 14, a reject box 4 is provided to received abnormal or abnormally-fed notes such as two or more notes fed together. These are diverted from the normal feed path by a diverter 76 positioned between a feeding belt 46 and a discharging belt 58. The abnormal feeding is detected by a thickness sensor 82. The operation of the machine is controlled by various optical sensors detecting note position and by clutches in the in the drives to the rollers feeding the notes and driving the belts. |
