PURPOSE: An in-plane switching mode LCD(liquid crystal display) is provided to offset a common voltage variation in a pixel, which is generated when the LCD is operated in a dot inversion mode. CONSTITUTION: An in-plane switching mode LCD includes a plurality of gate lines(103) and data lines(104), a switching element(110), a pixel electrode(107), and a common electrode(105). The gate lines and data lines define a plurality of pixels each of which is composed of the first and second regions. The switching element applies a pixel adjacent thereto. The pixel electrode is arranged in the first and second regions of each pixel. The first data voltage is applied from the switching element to the first region and the second data voltage is applied from the switching element to the second region. The common electrode is arranged in the first and second regions and provided with a common voltage. The common electrode and pixel electrode generate in-plane field.
