PURPOSE: A method for setting focus biases of an optical disk recording device is provided to generate RF signals to calculate size of each RF signal, and to compare the calculated size of the RF signals, then to select the biggest RF signal, thereby determining an optimal focus bias. CONSTITUTION: An optical disk recording device sets plural focus biases(S51). The device records random data in one block of a PCA(Power Calibration Area) by using one of the focus biases(S53). The device records random data in a different block by using a next focus bias(S55). The device generates RF signals by reading the random data from the one block of the PCA(S57), and calculates size of the RF signals(S59). The device decides whether a certain block in which the random data is recorded exists(S61). If not, the device compares the size of the RF signals to select the biggest RF signal(S63). The device decides whether the size of the selected RF signal is bigger than a preset RF signal(S65). If so, the device determines a focus bias corresponding to the selected RF signal as an optimal focus bias(S67).
