PURPOSE: A position judgment device, a position judgment method and program thereof are provided to control the system optimally and accurately, and to reduce control delay by obtaining the optimal range information and using common range information. CONSTITUTION: A position judgment device(11) is composed of a position sensor(14) generating output values continuously according to operation of a shift operating member for selecting a range of a power train, and a position decision process unit deciding the position for controlling by comparing the output value with the predetermined position decision pattern corresponding to each control. The optimal range information is gained by comparing the output value from the position sensor with the predetermined position decision pattern and by deciding the position.
