PURPOSE: A gateway apparatus for the control of electric appliances and a system for controlling electric home appliances using the same are provided to enable a user to confirm and control the operation states of indoor electric home appliances outdoors by using a communication terminal. CONSTITUTION: A gateway system for the control of electric home appliances comprises a transceiver(121), a control part(111), a memory part(131), a voice service part(141), a DTMF part(151), a telephone interface part(161), a display part(171), and a power supply part(181). The transceiver(121), connected with electric appliances through a power line(L1), executes LON(Local Open Network)-talk protocol-based data communication with the electric appliances. The memory part(131), connected with the control part(111), stores a password for the user and serial numbers for the electric appliances. The voice service part(141), storing voice information for the operation states and operation setup of the electric appliances, outputs voice information according to an order from the control part(111). The DTMF part(151) converts a signal, transmitted from the control part(111), into a DTMF signal and transfers it to the telephone interface part(161). The telephone interface part(161) is connected with a telephone line(L2) incoming from the external, a line(L3) connected with an indoor telephone, and a line(L4) connected with an interphone. The display part(171), when a serial number is set in the memory part(131), displays the setting state so that the user can confirm it.
