PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for manufacturing chain are provided to prevent coming off of the rectangular wire rod inserted into the ring without a separate welding process by removing a gap between a rectangular wire rod inserted into a ring of chain and the ring so that the wire rod is cohesively and integrally inserted into the ring. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a processing part(100) comprising a lower die(110) on which a guide groove for transferring the chain(10) is formed in one direction, and in which a rectangular wire rod supply groove is formed perpendicularly to the guide groove, and an upper die(120) comprising first punch(122) installed on an upper side of the lower die in such a way that the first punch is lifted and lowered to punch the inner side of rings in a certain shape, and second punch(124) installed at one side of the first punch to cut rectangular wire rods(12) supplied along the rectangular wire rod supply groove and insert the cut rectangular wire rods into a perforated part of the rings in such a way that the cut rectangular wire rods are closely adhered to the perforated part of the rings; a chain supporting part(200) reciprocated in a direction perpendicular to the guide groove by first projection bar(220) installed on the upper die by descent of an upper die with the chain supporting part being installed at one side of the guide groove to prevent opening of the rings by fixing and supporting the chain when perforating the inside of the rings using first punch of the processing part and inserting the rectangular wire rods into the inside of the rings using second punch; a rectangular wire rod supply part(300) reciprocated in the same direction as the rectangular wire rod supply groove by second projection bar(320) installed on the upper die by descent of the upper die to transfer the rectangular wire rods supplied along the rectangular wire rod supply groove in a certain distance; and a chain transfer part(400) reciprocated in the same direction as the guide groove by third projection bar installed on the upper die by descent of the upper die to move the chain transferred along the guide groove.
