PURPOSE: A device for improving bell sound quality of a portable terminal is provided to control high frequency and low frequency characteristics that are influenced by apparatus properties a lot, according to user selection, thereby supplying a bell sound with the excellent quality of sound. CONSTITUTION: A sound source generator(210) generates a sound source of a bell sound, and outputs a generated sound source signal to an active band filter(230). An MSM(Mobile Station Modem)(220) outputs plural control signals for controlling the active band filter(230). The active band filter(230) receives the plural control signals from the MSM(220), controls frequency characteristics according to the inputted control signals, and filters/amplifies the sound source signal according to the controlled frequency characteristics. The active band filter(230) outputs the filtered/amplified sound source signal to a speaker driver(240).
