<p>A method of froth flotation comprises adding to a mineral pulp a small quantity of a collector and a small quantity of a frother, the frother comprising at least one substituted hydrocarbon nucleus of 3-10 carbon atoms in straight chain, branched chain, or cyclic structure, from 3-6 of the hydrogen atoms being substituted by any of the alkoxy groups methoxy-, ethoxy-, normal-propoxy-, isopropoxy-, methoxy-ethoxy-, ethoxy-ethoxy-, attached by ether linkage. The cyclic hydrocarbon may be monocyclic, e.g. benzene ring. A double-bonded oxygen atom may be attached to a nucleus carbon atom, preferably a carbon atom, having an alkoxy group attached. Examples of the frother are: 1, 2, 3-triethoxypropane, 1, 2, 3, 4-tetramethoxybutane, 1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9-hexamethoxydecane, tetraethylether of pentaerythritol, ethyl-b -b diethoxy butyrate, 1, 2, 3-trimethoxybenzene, and 1, 3, 5-trimethoxybenzene.
