Dry preparations which are readily dispersible in water and are suitable for feeding young animals, especially young pigs, contain at least 10 per cent, on a dry basis, of fat, e.g. lard or corn, cottonseed, soybean, sesame or palm oil, vitamin B12 and other vitamins, an antibiotic, e.g. oxytetracycline, the procaine or dibenzylethylene salt of penicillin, substances which yield traces of iron, copper, zinc, cobalt, tin and manganese, and an emulsifying agent. A casein-containing substance, e.g. dried skim milk, may be incorporated; 20 parts of a preparation containing dried skim milk may be dispersed in 100 parts of warm water and 5-6 parts of a preparation not containing dried skim milk may be dispersed in 100 parts of skim milk. Casein may be substituted in part by dry or semi-solid whey. Fish solubles, the concentrated or dried residues of fish, may be incorporated. Preparations containing lard or corn oil, vitamin A, vitamin D2, ascorbic acid, thiamin hydrochloride, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, calcium pantothenate, inositol, choline and vitamin B12, oxytetracycline and the trace minerals, and such preparations containing also dry skim milk, dry skim milk and 50 per cent fish solubles, dry skim milk and 65 per cent whey solids, are described. |
