Gas discharge lamp power supply method, uses DC/AC converter to generate alternating voltage with sparking frequency equal to resonance frequency for output circuits for lamps

The lamps (15A, 15B) are sparked by using an DC/AC converter (12) to generate an alternating voltage with a sparking frequency approximately equal to or slightly higher than the resonance frequency for the output circuits associated with the lamps. During normal lamp operation the DC/AC converter is used to generate a working frequency approximately equal to the resonance frequency for the output circuits divided by an even whole number. Two or more lamps are powered by a common DC/AC converter, each lamp being powered by an associated output circuit comprising a lamp coil (13A) and a resonance capacitor (14A). All the output circuits have approximately the same resonance frequency.
