PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to control a cell gap by controlling the thickness of a passivation film, thereby capable of improving transmittance of light and performing compensation of color characteristics. CONSTITUTION: RGB subpixel arrays(1R,1G,1B) are formed on a transparent substrate(21). RGB CLC(Cholesteric Liquid Crystal) Color filters(2R,2G,2B) corresponding to the RGB subpixel arrays(1R,1G,1B) by interposing a liquid crystal(26) and an alignment film(24) are formed at an upper transparent substrate(22). The RGB subpixel arrays(1R,1G,1B) is a TFT array portion and passivation films(30R,30G,30B) are formed on upper portions of the RGB subpixel arrays(1R,1G,1B). A pixel electrode is positioned at an upper portion the passivation film.
