PURPOSE: An electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery is provided to prevent the swelling of a battery at high temperature, without decreasing the battery capacity or cycle life. The electrolyte is suitably applicable to a prismatic or pouch type battery. CONSTITUTION: The electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery comprises non-aqueous organic solvent; based on the weight of the non-aqueous organic solvent, 0.01-10wt% of a thiolane compound represented by a general formula 1; and a lithium salt. In the formula 1, A is 0 or NR, wherein R is an alkyl group having C1-6. The non-aqueous organic solvent is selected from cyclic carbonate, linear carbonate, ester, ether and ketone. The lithium salt is selected from LiPF6, LiAsF6, LiCF3SO3, LiN(CF3SO2)3, LiBF6 and LiClO4. The lithium secondary battery comprises the electrolyte, a positive electrode which contains a positive electrode active material that is able to (de)intercalate lithium and a negative electrode which contains a negative electrode active material that is able to (de)intercalate lithium. |
