PURPOSE: A forward/reverse rotation compressor driving apparatus and a method for refrigerator equipped with pole change motor are provided to reduce the power consumption by controlling a rotating state of the compressor according to an opening state of a refrigerator door. CONSTITUTION: A power supply unit(10) supplies a constant voltage. A door sensing unit(11) senses an opening state of a refrigerator door. A temperature detection unit(12) detects the internal temperature according to the setup temperature. A microcomputer(13) is used for outputting a forward/reverse rotation control signal and a stator pole number control signal. A forward/reverse rotation signal generation unit(14) generates a forward rotation signal and a reverse rotation signal according to the forward/reverse rotation control signal. A pole-changing signal generation unit(15) generates a pole-changing signal according to the stator pole number control signal. A compressor(16) is used for maintaining the internal temperature under the setup temperature.
