SEPARATOR FOR LITHIUM BATTERY AND LITHIUM BATTERY EMPLOYING THE SEPARATOR

PURPOSE: A separator for a lithium battery and a lithium battery employing the separator are provided, to suppress the deformation of an electrode assembly due to the swelling of an electrode plate in charging, thereby inhibiting the increase of thickness of an electrode assembly after charging and minimizing the generation of precipitates. CONSTITUTION: The separator has an elastic modulus of 2.0 kgf/mm¬2 or less, and preferably 0.1-2.0 kgf/mm¬2. The separator comprises polyethylene, polypropylene or their combination. Preferably the separator is a polyethylene single layer or a polypropylene/polyethylene/polypropylene trilayer.
