PURPOSE: A method for extracting an interest region from a tongue image and a method and an apparatus for monitoring a state of heath using a tongue image are provided to diagnose the state of the heath by installing a health monitoring device at a mobile communication system having a digital camera. CONSTITUTION: A database is formed by using template images corresponding to personal information(31). A personal tongue image is obtained by using a predetermined camera system and the obtained personal tongue image is divided into plural tongue regions(33). The template images of the database are matched with the divided tongue regions(35). The interest regions such as a center region, a lateral region, and a front region of tongue are extracted from the matched template images(37).
