PURPOSE: A data processing system and method are provided to appropriately process data received from various input devices, data to be provided to various output devices and data received/provided from/to various storage devices. CONSTITUTION: A data processing system(1) for selectively receiving information data from a plurality of input devices(11) has an input interface function of interfacing with the input devices. The data processing system includes an common input processor and a variable input processor. The common input processor commonly processes the information data received from the input devices through the input interface. The variable input processor processes the information data received from the input devices through the input interface in response to the type of an input device selected from the plurality of input devices. The data processing system further includes an input device detector that detects the type of an input device from which information data is received through the input interface.
