PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable storage device capable of quickly and safely performing loading/injecting operation at the time of attaching/detaching a removable hard disk cartridge to/from the portable storage device. SOLUTION: When the operation status of the portable storage device is "loading completion", a disk controller 41 is normally driven by a command from a master device. When the command is an injection instruction in no "loading completion" (step S112), the instruction is neglected and any processing is not performed (step S113). When the command is not an injection instruction and a hard disk drive unit 10 does not physically exist before an interface circuit of a controller 41, operation for no loading of a cartridge 1 is performed (step S114).
