PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for surface treatment capable of easily and efficiently perform a required surface treatment for various sheet bodies, and an apparatus for recording an image. SOLUTION: This apparatus for surface treatment has a sheet body heating means for heating the sheet body at least having a thermoplastic resin layer and an image recording layer on a substrate, and a sheet body cooling means for cooling the sheet body under a condition where the sheet body is brought into contact with a contact member. The face characteristics of the contact member are transferred to the surface of the image recording layer and to the boundary face on the image recording layer side of the thermoplastic resin layer in the sheet body. This apparatus for surface treatment has a contact member selecting means for selecting a contact member with target face characteristics from a plurality of kinds of the contact members with different face characteristics, a sheet body heating means for heating the sheet body at least containing the thermoplastic resin layer, and a sheet body cooling means for cooling the sheet body under a condition where the sheet body is brought into contact with the contact member.
