PURPOSE: An image reading and writing apparatus is provided to prevent rapid inclined transfer of documents or sheets without requiring a lot of memory. CONSTITUTION: An image reading and writing apparatus includes the first tray(8) on which the first sheet corresponding to one of a document and a writing sheet is placed, the first rapid transfer unit(60) for rapidly transferring the first sheet, and the second tray(11) on which the second sheet corresponding to the other one of the document and writing sheet is placed. The image reading and writing apparatus further includes the second rapid transfer unit(50) for rapidly transferring the second sheet, and a guiding member(23) extended from the first tray to the second rapid transfer unit to guide the first sheet transferred by the first rapid transfer unit. When the first sheet is transferred by the first rapid transfer unit, a cut portion of the second transfer unit is stopped opposite to the guiding member to form a gap between the cut portion and guiding member, through which the first sheet passes.
