<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology that suppresses the reduction of hydrogen utilization rate while suppressing the concentration of impurities in an anode exhaust gas, in a fuel cell system in which hydrogen gas is used as the fuel gas and the anode exhaust gas is circulated as the fuel gas. <P>SOLUTION: In the fuel cell system 10, the anode exhaust gas is added into the hydrogen gas passing through a fuel gas feed path 40 via an anode exhaust gas passage 42. At this time, the anode exhaust gas is led to a separation chamber 26 via a by-pass flow-path 48 by a prescribed timing. In the separation chamber 26, an impurity rich gas having higher impurity concentration is separated from the anode exhaust gas. The separated residual gas from which impurities are removed is added into the hydrogen gas passing the fuel gas feed path 40.
