<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water storage type water heater capable of preventing the boiling performance of a heat pump unit from lowering even if the water heater is a hot water storage type water heater utilizing high temperature hot water in a hot water storage tank as heat source for hot water supply and heat exchange. <P>SOLUTION: The hot water storage tank 1 comprises a plurality of discharge ports 42a, 42b and 42c in a circulation circuit 43 and a plurality of lead-out ports 14a, 14b and 14c in hot water supply pipes 13, 14, 17a and 17b. Intermediate temperature hot water is returned into the hot water storage tank 1 from the discharge ports 42a, 42b and 42c where the hot water temperature at the portions thereof connected to the discharge ports 42a, 42b and 42c is approximately equal to the hot water temperature of the intermediate temperature hot water returned into the hot water storage tank 1 in the circulation circuit 43. The hot water in the hot water storage tank 1 is discharged from the lead-out ports 14a, 14b and 14c in which the portions thereof connected to the lead-out ports 14a, 14b and 14c are connected to the portions thereof positioned higher than the discharge ports 42a, 42b and 42c.
