<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thick coating which has a high silicon nitride content, and is excellent in hardness, heat resistance, insulating properties, wear resistance, oxidation resistance, preventability in diffusion of impurities or the like, and to provide a member coated with the thick coating. <P>SOLUTION: In a thermal spraying method, under the condition where a bright part 104 in thermal plasma is contacted with a base material 101, using a plasma gas at least comprising nitrogen, the thermal spraying temperature is controlled to the range from the melting point of silicon (1,410°C) to the decomposition temperature of silicon nitride (1,900°C), so that a thick coating having a high silicon nitride content is formed. In the case the ratio of the silicon nitride in the formed sprayed coating is low, the thermal plasma which does not feed silicon is applied to the sprayed coating to promote the nitriding of the coating, and, finally, the sprayed coating having a high silicon nitride content is obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
