PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a power saving function without increasing the number of parts. SOLUTION: A digital camera monitors the input situation of an operating signal and shifts to a power saving mode when there is no input of the operating signal for a specified period of time Ta (30 seconds); further, a power source is automatically switched off when there is no input of the operating signal for a specified period of time Tb (2 minutes) after shifting to the power saving mode. Moreover, by examining the difference between the frames on the basis of the frames of a fetched through picture while measuring the specified period of time Ta, it is monitored whether or not the camera is left. As is shown in the case 2, when the state in which the difference between the frames is below the reference value continues for a specified period of time Tc (10 seconds), the digital camera shifts to the power saving mode without waiting for the specified period of time Ta to pass.
