PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reaction vessel for an optical fiber starting preform, which is not damaged by heat expansion and contraction when the optical fiber starting preform is manufactured. SOLUTION: The reaction vessel 10 for the optical fiber starting preform has frames 6, 16 and side face members 5 for constituting side faces. In the respective frames 6, 16, grooved parts 8 are provided for accommodating the peripheral parts of the side face members 5, and each grooved part is constituted so as to hold the peripheral part while permitting heat expansion or contraction of the side face member 5.
