PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator hall display system which is capable of reliably informing a user that an elevator is under maintenance and inspection by using an elevator hall digital indicator situated at an elevator hall, and a display method. SOLUTION: The elevator hall display system comprises a maintenance inspection mode deciding means 11 to output a display switching command by which display is switched when it is decided that switching to a maintenance inspection mode is effected based on input of a maintenance inspection mode demand signal; a maintenance inspection indicating means 12 to output a flow display command by which given words and phrases to express that the system is under maintenance and inspection are displayed in a flowing manner one by one; and a hall displaying means 2 to display given words and phrases one by one based on a flow display command to repeat it. The maintenance inspection display means 12 causes the hall display means 12 to display the given words and phrases such that distinction is made between a first letter and other letters.
