<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the viewing angle of a liquid crystal display device from the aspect of a high contrast (a contrast viewing angle) and also small hue change (a hue viewing angle). <P>SOLUTION: An image wide in the viewing angle and small in the hue change is displayed by appropriately controlling optical anisotropy of an optically anisotropic layer formed by using a discotic compound and a transparent substrate and wavelength dispersion of the transparent substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
