PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus for obtaining a moving picture in a natural sense even when a still picture is photographed in a still picture mode by switching from a moving picture mode when photographing in the moving picture mode. SOLUTION: The image recording apparatus is provided with an imaging means, a recording means, a mode switching means for switching a still picture imaging mode into a moving picture imaging mode or the vice versa and a resolution conversion means for converting the resolution, and records imaged still picture and moving picture to different areas of a recording medium in the recording means respectively. When the still picture imaging mode is selected in the moving picture imaging mode, the mode switch means selects the still picture imaging mode only for a period of photographing a still picture to photograph a still picture, the recording means records the photographed still picture to an area for the still picture of the recording medium, the resolution conversion means converts the resolution of the photographed still picture into a resolution in matching with the resolution of the moving picture, and the recording means records the still picture whose resolution is converted to the area for the moving picture as a moving picture.
