PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer capable of preventing the image quality of a print image from lowering by regulating energy being applied to a print head depending on the content of the print image and the print speed. SOLUTION: An array of dots arranged in the width direction of a tape T is defined as a dot line, a dot line including dots to be printed is defined as a print line (BL), and a dot line not including dots to be printed is defined as a blank line (WL). Each dot line of a print image G0 is analyzed to determine whether it is a print line or a blank line (S12-S13), a blank duration k not performing printing continuously due to the blank lines is detected (S33-S34), and then the energy being applied to a print head 7 in order to print each print line is regulated (S19) based on the blank duration k and the continuous number n of blank lines (S35, S17, S18).
