FUSION SPLICING METHOD OF OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fusion splicing method in which connecting tips are improved by properly conducting spattering electric discharge to the splicing ends while fusion splicing on optical fiber having a high melting point and an optical fiber having a low melting point by arc dischargeing and proper splicing strength is obtained without deteriorating splicing loss. SOLUTION: In the fusion splicing method, a pair of optical fibers 1 and 2 having mutually different glass transition points are fused together by arc discharging. Prior to conduct the arc discharging for the fusion, spattering discharging is individually conducted for connecting ends 1a and 2a of the pair of the optical fibers 1 and 2. Moreover, during the individual spattering discharging, discharging energy corresponding to the glass transition points of the fibers 1 and 2 is individually set. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
