PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To individually regulate an optical cylinder length with respect to a plurality of object lenses different in magnification. SOLUTION: This Vickers hardness testing machine is equipped with a sample stand 2 on which a sample having an impression formed thereto is placed, a plurality of object lenses 5 and 15 different in magnification arranged so as to be turned toward the sample, a lens holding means 4 for holding the respective lenses and selectively setting them at the observation position to the sample on the sample stand, an observation means 9 for observing the sample through the selected object lens and a measuring means 30 for measuring the size of the impression of the sample. The testing machine also has a cylinder length regulating means 50 for regulating the optical cylinder length between the selected object lens and the observation means by the extension and contraction of a member for forming a light path.
