PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive assist system allowing various types of easy operation even when a driver is not used to driving a vehicle. SOLUTION: Whether or not another vehicle which will obstruct a lane changing action exists in a lane to which the driver wants to change lanes is determined on the basis of a distance and a relative speed with respect to the other vehicle (steps S270 and 280). When there is no other vehicle which will obstruct the lane changing action and it is determined that lane change can be carried out safely, a lane change instruction is provided (step S290). By starting the lane changing action when the lane change instruction is provided, even the driver not used to driving can carry out the lane changing action at an appropriate timing.
